Wikipedia and the SAFE Network were meant to be. An online database, accessible and editable by everyone, available in every language, and ever-growing? Those are core principles of the Wikipedia Foundation, and also of the SAFE Network. But now the WF won't have to ask for money anymore, as the traffic it generates on SAFE will earn it Safecoin. Win win!

History

This is not a separate app that is in development, it is more of a proposition for Wikipedia to host all of its data on SAFE's distributed, globally-backed-up network, instead of it's own centralized & vulnerable servers. Wikipedia has a long and successful history of fostering knowledge around the world, and once the SAFE Network is live, its vision will only expand.

Features

In addition to everything Wikipedia already does, such as hosting and delivering the wealth of humanity's combined knowledge to every corner of the globe, SAFEpedia would have several other exciting features, mostly concerning payment. Micropayments are part of the SAFE Network's core protocol, so the Wikipedia Foundation (if they migrate over) could earn Safecoin from all traffic, and ALL EDITORS of data / pages could earn micropayments for the knowledge they contribute!

Launch Date

It was expected that the network would launch at the end of last year, (and this app soon after,) however an amazing new coding language came out called "Rust" that turned out to be perfect for the SAFE Network to be created with. So, the team decided to restart the whole network from scratch in Rust. This means we will have to wait a few more months to see the network or this app. Follow it on Github!
